Looking for the best steamed white rice recipe? Look no further! Warning – really good steamed rice is a labor of love and takes roughly an hour to cook so plan accordingly. You won’t be disappointed!
Perfect Steamed White Rice
2 cups white rice
2 cups for cooking and several cups of water for rinsing and soaking (use filtered water if your tap water quality is poor)
Place dry rice grains in a large bowl. Pour in enough water in to cover the rice. Using your fingers, stir the rice and rub the grains together to remove the starch. Drain off the water. Repeat 3 more times or until the water is fairly clear.
Let rice soak in clear water 10-15 minutes or until the rice takes on a milky white color.
Drain water off the rice and let rice drain in a strainer for 10-15 minutes (longer is fine).
Over high heat, bring rice and two cups water to a simmer. Once simmering, reduce heat to low, stir, and cover rice. Cook for 15 minutes (do not lift the lid!). Once your timer goes off, turn off the burner but do not remove from heat or lift the lid. Allow rice to “set” 10 minutes before serving.
Do you have leftover rice? You can freeze any leftovers in a Ziploc bag for later use.
Eat Well!
